When Reality
Shattered the Dream
Last week on TV, I saw what was in store -
Sorrow, captivity, hunger and war.
But no, they all said, the world was so good,
It wasn't about losing joy, freedom, and food,
Or blasting each other with bombs and big guns
In scenes kids re-enacted, while having fun.
So, to see for myself, I looked all around -
And saw happiness radiating from all over town,
People basking in the sunlight of a world that was free,
Eating anything they wished, true as could be,
And no wars at all, how crazy the thought,
That in a world full of peace, a war could be fought.
They asked me why I was worrying, for,
There wasn't sorrow, captivity, hunger or war.
So, yes, I believed that the world was so good,
It wasn't about losing joy, freedom, and food,
Or blasting each other with bombs and big guns
In scenes kids re-enacted, while having fun.
Then all of a sudden, everything was real.
The war was so close, I could hear, see, and feel,
And even smell and taste it, as it drew so near,
Sharp reality was what once had just been a fear.
Now biting my lip in disappointment, I find
That the beautiful paradise was just in my mind.
